The student extern will have the opportunity to focus on Maternal and Child Health issues common to large metropolitan communities in the three areas of CityMatCH’s Strategic Plan: health equity, data and science use, and leadership development. The student will indicate the CityMatCH projects of interest and do the work in collaboration with CityMatCH project coordinators; to help them advance the work of the projects. The student extern will contribute to, and learn from, the field of Maternal and Child Health, and will be supported by staff members along the way, with ample opportunities to excel.
Stipend, Housing, and Transportation
The student extern will be offered a $5,000 stipend for their participation.
Local housing options are available for summer session UNMC interns/externs and are all in proximity to the UNMC campus. These options run between $130 and $600 per month. This does not include transportation. Examples of nearby housing include:
- Clarkson College (http://www.clarksoncollege.edu/studentlife/housing/)
- UNO Scott Village (http://www.scottcampus.com/)
- Homewood Suites (http://www.omahadowntown.homewoodsuites.com/)
A portion of the $5,000 stipend can be used upfront for housing (including the above examples) and related costs for the 10 week externship. The student will need to secure housing in the Omaha, Nebraska, area for the duration of the externship. The student will be required to provide a mailing address as proof of secured housing by date in the above timeline. The externship offer can be revoked if this deadline is not met. Housing options fill up fast. As soon as you are notified of acceptance, you should begin making arrangements.
Student may choose to drive their personal vehicles to Omaha so they have a car for local travel needs. Please contact CityMatCH to inquire about parking options. Student will be responsible for the scheduling and cost of flights in and out of Omaha. Omaha’s airport is Eppley Airfield, and at this time there are no direct flights to or from Nashville. Southwest Airlines (link to Southwest) does have flight to and from Nashville with one stop-over. While in Omaha, student can use the Omaha Metro bus service.
