Ellen “El” Kerns (she/her/hers) joined CityMatCH in 2021 as a member of the faculty. She has a BS in Biology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, as well as an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She also has a Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Her research focuses on building, deploying, and evaluating community and clinical decision support tools.
Prior to CityMatCH, El worked as a research data analyst for UNMC guiding research processes and analysis using Children’s EHR. She also completed a fellowship at the Center for Disease Control’s National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health where she worked on surveillance projects utilizing noise exposure as well as hearing loss data from national surveys, the US Airforce, and private companies that provide annual worker hearing screenings as a service.
Outside of CityMatCH, El enjoys traveling, hiking, and biking. She also serves as a data scientist for the Children’s Care Transformation division and co-direct the Emerging Medical Education tract on Climate and Health.
