2017 Training Course in MCH Epidemiology

Basic to Intermediate Skills in Statistical Epidemiological Methods

The application period for this training course is NOW closed. The Maternal and Child Health Bureau, CityMatCH, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, will once again offer a Training Course in Statistical MCH Epidemiological Methods as part of their ongoing effort to enhance the analytic capacity of state and local health agencies. The training course combines lectures, discussion, hands-on exercises, and opportunities for individualized technical assistance. This year’s training course will take place June 12-16, 2017 in Clearwater Beach, Florida.


This is a competitive application process; not all who apply will be accepted.

The online application period is from mid-January, 2017 to February 17, 2017

All state health department applicants are required to submit a letter of authorization from their supervisor or state Title V director, indicating support for the training and approval of time out of office.

Following an independent review in mid-March, all applicants will be notified of acceptance, waitlist, or non-acceptance status. Accepted participants receive the course and hotel lodgings at no cost. Limited airfare scholarships are available upon request.

Content will include background and methods for the following, as they relate to the MCH planning cycle:
Needs Assessment and Priority Setting
Perinatal Periods of Risk (PPOR)
Performance Measurement
Multivariable Analysis and Regression Modeling
Program Evaluation
Social Determinants of Health 
Quality Improvement
Effective Data Presentation and Translation
