Blueprint for Reducing Teen Drive Car Crashes

The National Safety Council and the Traffic Injury Research Foundation has created a framework for reducing teen driver car crashes, the leading cause of death for this age group. The framework includes a multi-year licensing system applying to drivers younger than 21, mandatory in-vehicle technology to track practice hours, a full-year ban on carrying passengers, decals to aid in teen driver identification, and on-going driver's education classes. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) updated nutrition standards for meals and snacks sold on school campuses to students during the school day through the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. These standards, Smart Snacks in School, also include food and beverages sold at school fundraisers unless the state has established an exemption policy for occasional fundraising events.
