Patterns of weight gain before, during and after pregnancy are associated with poor pregnancy and birth outcomes and contribute to long term negative health outcomes for women and their children. The Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) and CityMatCH are the coordinating organizations of this Action Learning Collaborative. They will frame the call by providing an introduction regarding some of the impacts of maternal weight. AMCHP and CityMatCH will then illustrate how the collaborative has worked over the past 18 months to promote a healthy weight in women of reproductive age. Eight multidisciplinary teams from state and local health departments will describe how they formed effective partnerships, determined activities appropriate for their communities and states, and the lessons learned from their experiences to date.
