(NACCHO and CityMatCH co-produce "Emerging Issues in MCH" (E-MCH) webinars, presenting current research, policy and practice strategies on critical issues in US public health)
It has long been known that public health policy has a profound effect upon health status. Each of the ten great public health advancements of the twentieth century has been influenced by policy changes. Yet, formulation of health policies is a complex process, relying on a variety of scientific, economic, social and political forces. All too frequently, the gap between what research shows is effective and the policies that are enacted is wide.
In this webinar, Dr. Brownson will describe the elements of evidence-based public health policy, identify key barriers and challenges globally, and explain strategies for overcoming some of these barriers. Drs. Brownson and Carroll will share approaches and strategies local public health departments can employ as they move toward evidence-based approaches. Key principles will be illustrated through the use of case studies.
NACCHO and CityMatCH have been renewed by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention to provide continuing education credits (CME, CNE, CECH, and CEU's) for the Emerging Issues in Maternal and Child Health Series beginning October 20, 2009 through October 20, 2011.
